Welcome to the Shanghai Bei website.
Now in its third year, the Shanghai Bei is a quickly growing annual rugby union fifteens tournament held across China’s eastern coast. Teams host the competition in their home grounds, across Shanghai city and adjoining Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces.
With teams composed of all Chinese, all foreign and a mixture of players, this year’s competition, held throughout 2009, is pleased to welcome the Shanghai Hermit Crabs, the Shanghai Rhinos and Shanghai Zhudi Monks. A sign of how quickly the cup is growing in popularity, with both players and supporters.
Following the Hairy Crab’s victory in last year’s tournament, this season will see one match between each of the following teams:
- Shanghai Hermit Crabs
- Shanghai Sports University (Chinese sport students team)
- Japanese Twin Dragons (Shanghai based Japanese team)
- Nantong Tigers (Chinese based, expat supported team)
- Hangzhou Harlequins (Expat based team)
- Zhudi Monks (expat & Chinese team with faculty from Shanghai American School)
- Shanghai Rhinos (Chinese team)
With its quick expansion, soon to become one of the biggest on the Chinese mainland, the tournament is gaining increasing exposure. As a result, it provides an fantastic opportunity for those considering sponsoring sports events in China, heightening their own profile across both the Chinese and foreign communities. Current sponsorship ranges in scale from small contributions to events entertainment to the provision of kit for the players. We encourage anyone seeking such exposure to get in touch!
